SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — The goals never came Wednesday night at Owen T. Carroll Field. Seton Hall women’s soccer (4-0-4) and Butler (5-2-3) played to a 0-0 draw as the Pirates extended their program-record shutout streak to seven consecutive games.

For Seton Hall, the result continued an unbeaten start to the season, but it also marked the second straight scoreless draw for the Pirates in BIG EAST play.

Seton Hall goalkeeper Kate Kleinsmith once again played a major role in keeping the Pirates on the scoreboard. Kleinsmith finished with six saves, including several important stops as Butler applied pressure early in the match.

Butler finished with 13 shots compared to Seton Hall’s eight and put six shots on target. Seton Hall managed five shots on goal, but Butler goalkeeper Addison Ash matched Kleinsmith with five saves of her own.

The Pirates created some of their best chances during the first half. In the 31st minute, Jordana Bello fired a shot from the edge of the box, but Ash made the save. Seven minutes later, Sabrina Campbell tested the Butler goalkeeper from a similar area, only for Ash to deny her again.

Seton Hall came close again early in the second half. In the 54th minute, Gabriela Berrios headed a ball toward goal from close range, but Ash was there to make another save. While the Pirates struggled to find the breakthrough, their defense continued to hold firm. Butler recorded six shots on target, but Seton Hall prevented the Bulldogs from finding the back of the net.

The Pirates also kept Butler without a shot on target during the final 38 minutes of the match. The defensive performance extended Seton Hall’s scoreless streak to 699 minutes and 45 seconds without conceding a goal.

The Pirates are now 4-0-4 overall and 0-0-2 in BIG EAST play. Despite the two consecutive draws to begin conference play, Seton Hall remains unbeaten through eight matches.

Seton Hall will look to turn some of those draws into wins when they return to action Saturday against Xavier in Cincinnati. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.

For now, the Pirates will have to settle for another clean sheet, and another point.
