SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall Pirates (4-12-3) concluded their 2024 season with a 3-0 loss to the Marquette Golden Eagles (6-11-3) on Thursday night. Senior captains Natalie Tavana and Chiara Pucci, along with their teammates, embraced the atmosphere and made lasting memories in their final game with the Pirates.

Both teams came out aggressive, trading shots and committing fouls early. In the eighth minute, Marquette’s Haley Christianson capitalized on a Seton Hall error to score the first goal. The Pirates responded with several attempts from Natalie Tavana and Phoebe Hampson, but none found the net, as Seton Hall struggled to convert throughout the match.

Seton Hall’s troubles deepened when senior forward Aislinn Boyle capitalized on a short kick, assisted by Julia O’Neill and Carina Murphy, to extend Marquette’s lead to two before halftime. The Pirates committed 10 fouls in total—three in the last five minutes of the first half—slightly outpacing Marquette’s nine. Despite strong efforts on both ends, Seton Hall ended the half scoreless and trailing by two.

The second half featured back-and-forth action, with both teams pushing to gain momentum. Several corner kicks were taken early, but it wasn’t until the 69th minute that Marquette struck again. Senior Carina Murphy, who assisted on the second goal, scored her third of the season with a powerful header. Seton Hall attempted to rally, but time ran out, sealing their defeat.

With the 3-0 loss, the Pirates dropped their sixth straight match, finishing the 2024 season with a 1-7-2 conference record. Senior captains Natalie Tavana and Chiara Pucci leave a lasting legacy at Owen T. Carroll Field, leading the team in goals, assists, shots, shots on goal, points, and minutes played this season.

With the collegiate careers of Tavana and Pucci concluded, Seton Hall now looks to freshman standouts Kylie Ray, Olivia Beauvois, and Nina Davis to help lead the team forward. Head Coach Josh Osit shifts focus to the 2025 season, hopeful that a blend of returning starters and emerging talent can drive the Pirates toward a BIG EAST tournament run.
