Argentina to Face Spain in the World Cup Final

Atlanta is where another miraculous comeback happened for Lionel Messi and Co. as they score two goals within minutes to erase a deficit and win the match 2-1 to go to the final again Spain. A little over a week ago Argentina had accomplished a 3-goal comeback over Egypt and today had done a similar feat against England, overcoming a 1 goal deficit and scoring the game winner within 7 minutes of each other.

 

The defending World Cup champions came into their matchup today as the underdog, struggling for most of the game to create any goals despite constant pressure on the British goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. England, however, had their first yellow card before the first goal of the game, coming from Elliot Anderson in the 38th minute after taking down Lionel Messi. The first goal though came after halftime in the 55th minute from Anthony Gordan of England to put them in the lead for the next 30 minutes.

 

For the Argentinian National team, trouble had started for them before going down 1-0, Lisandro Martínez had acquired a yellow card in the 42nd minute for shirt pulling on Morgan Rogers. Cristian Romero was next for a yellow card, getting his in the 51st minute for bear hugging Jude Bellingham, all taking place before giving up the opening goal.

 

After the goal from England and the penalties, the tide would eventually shift in Argentina’s favor in the 85th minute when Enzo Fernández scored the equalizing goal from just outside the penalty area to tie the game 1-1. The next and final goal of the game came in the 92nd minute when Lautaro Martínez with a header to ice the game and shock the world once more. There was one more yellow card distributed in the contest for Argentina with Rodrigo De Paul being the one to incur it in the 94th minute for tactical time wasting, however this did not affect the outcome of the game.

 

With the clock hitting zero, Argentina had once again pulled off another miraculous and unforeseen comeback in this World Cup, in back-to-back weeks. England is going to matchup with France in the third-place match in Miami on Saturday at 5:00pm. Argentina will now travel to NY/NJ Stadium in East Rutherford NJ this Sunday at 3:00pm to play Spain in the final, a potential GOAT defining moment for Lionel Messi is approaching with the chance to win two World Cups in a row, a feat not done since Brazil did it in 1962.
