SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall Pirates (9-8) used timely hitting and late-game execution to secure a 5-4 victory over the Hofstra Pride (5-11) on Friday at Mike Sheppard Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field.

Seton Hall jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, setting the tone with aggressive offense. Gabe Cavazzoni ignited the scoring with a double that drove in Aiden Dill. Ryan Frontera would follow that up with another double, bringing Aiden Sengenberger home to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates maintained control through the early innings, as they held Hofstra scoreless until the third. The Pride would respond with a run in that inning though, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and beginning to apply pressure on Seton Hall.

Seton Hall regained momentum in the fifth inning, as Sengenberger reached base with a single and advanced to second, allowing Tommy Manzo enough time to score and extend the Pirates’ lead to 3-1. The inning also featured a key defensive highlight for the Hall, as Ty Acker helped turn a 4-6-3 double play to stifle Hofstra’s offensive push.

Despite the Pirates leading for the majority of the contest, the game took a dramatic turn in the seventh, as Hofstra rallied for three runs, seizing a 4-3 lead and shifting the pressure back onto Seton Hall.

Cavazzoni responded in the clutch, delivering a play that allowed Jake Lopez to score and tie the game at 4-4. With momentum hanging in the balance, Seton Hall turned to its offense once again in the eighth inning.

Frankie Scrivanic provided the decisive moment, driving a single into left field that brought Acker home for the go-ahead run. The hit ultimately proved to be the difference, as the Pirates held on through the final inning to secure the win.

Frontera and Scrivanic were both key to the win, as they each recorded two hits, helping fuel the Pirates’ offense throughout the game. Cavazzoni also made a strong impact, driving in two runs during key moments.

On the mound, Steven Svenson delivered a solid performance, recording three strikeouts while keeping Hofstra’s hitters in check for much of his outing.

The win marked the Hall's third straight victory, with their last three wins coming against three separate teams, being Brown, Wagner, and now Hofstra.

The Pirates will look to make it four wins in a row when they face off against Hofstra again on Saturday at Mike Sheppard Sr. Stadium, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
