SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall Pirates (10-9) took the series finale versus the Hofstra Pride (6-12) by a score of 6-2 on Sunday afternoon. The win pushes the Pirates back above the .500 mark, while the Pride now plummet even further into the loss column.
Mason Christopher got the starting nod for the Pirates, who came into the contest with a 2-1 record. Christopher dealt four straight scoreless innings for the Hall before giving up two in his fifth and final inning of work.
On the offensive end for the Hall, they were full of heroes today to help secure the victory, starting with Ryan Frontera. The third baseman got on base three of his four times up, while Magnus Kreiger made it on base two times, tallying a double and two RBI’s. Gabe Cavazzoni reached safely in all of his plate appearances while tallying one RBI, and last but not least, Ty Acker, was 2/4 in his at bats Sunday.
The positives for the Pirates could not be any more abundant with this game being played almost perfectly by them in all facets of the game, only letting up two runs. Pitching could not have been more of an improvement from yesterday, a fourteen-run difference given up, and replicating the efficiency that Hofstra had after scoring runs as soon as they hit the plate.
The Pirates scored four runs in the second inning and maintained their lead throughout the entire game, while adding two more runs in the sixth inning. This type of victory was crucial for this clubhouse in regards to keeping morale up and getting the team ready for the road ahead, with conference play in the rearview mirror.
However, The Hall have work to do in preparation for their next contest, as they need to maintain this type of pitching and hitting consistency, while avoiding the streaky stretches they sometimes fall victim to. The Pirates will now get several days of rest before returning to action Wednesday at home against Princeton, with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
