OMAHA, N.E. - The Seton Hall Pirates (7-2-7) were only able to manage a point on the road against a tough Creighton Bluejays (8-3-4) team in a 1-1 draw. The Pirates seven draws are the most since their 7-4-7 campaign in 2022.
Seton Hall came out firing right away in the first ten minutes. The Pirates offense had Creighton struggling right away in the 7th minute when Mikkel Lejbowicz drove into the box. The sophomore launched a shot that deflected off a Blue Jays defender to the feet of Til Kauschke. Kauschke played the ball back to Lejbowicz, who while still on the ground found the back of the net.
Lejbowicz has continued to impress this season, now having scored in back-to-back games. Lejbowicz and Kauschke have been the spark for the Pirates offense, who still have not lost in conference play.
However, the Pirates lead did not last long. Creighton quickly regained momentum, dominating possession for minutes at a time, as Seton Hall was unable to get the ball past the midway line. Eventually, Creighton tied things up at 1-1 in the 32nd minute, on Brady Bragg’s first goal of the season. As the clock approached halftime, the two sides struggled off and the match remained a draw entering the break.
The second half was eventful and neither side had much going. The opening minutes saw a couple minor chances, including a shot from Lejbowicz that forced an incredible save. In the 87th minute, Axel Berglund had a shot, but this last ditch effort resulted in a save by Creighton goalkeeper Matthew Hudson, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
Overall, this was a balanced match, as Seton Hall outshot Creighton 14-10, but they both registered four shots on goal. For Lejbowicz, he recorded his seventh goal of the season, also his fifth in four games, continuing his hot streak. Kauschke also logged his fourth assist of the season. Seton Hall is now 4-6-2 against Creighton all-time.
Up next for the Pirates in the regular season finale is a home date with the UConn Huskies in a pivotal game next Friday at Owen T. Carroll Field. If the Pirates defeat UConn next week, they will qualify for the BIG EAST Tournament. The match is scheduled for 6:56 p.m. and will be streamed on WSOU and ESPN+.
