Coming off of a dominant win against Providence, the Seton Hall Pirates (3-2-3) fell for the first time at Owen T. Carroll Field this season, dropping their Tuesday night contest against the Princeton Tigers (5-1-0) by a score of 3-1.

The first half started as a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to find a consistent offensive rhythm. Early in the first half, Princeton pushed forward and got a great scoring opportunity on a shot targeted for the bottom right side of the net, but fortunately for the Pirates, goalkeeper Matias Molina registered his first save of the night.

Five minutes into the game, Joseph Min substituted for the injured grad student Joseph Waight after a hard foul, which almost resulted in a red card for the Princeton Tigers.

Later on, Molina stopped the second shot on goal attempt for Princeton off of a failed corner kick. Seton Hall got several opportunities with a handful of shots, but were saved by Andrew Samuels, who was the story for a majority of the game.

Hugo Gerbore received a yellow card with about 15 minutes left in the first half, and after Molina obtained his third save of the night, Princeton attempted to make a push to score before the first frame concluded. With sustained offensive pressure, the Tigers finally broke the ice as Kristian Kelly scored his first goal of the year in the 41st minute.

To begin the second half, a red card on Seton Hall’s Konstantin Donalies proved to be costly for the Pirates, as after colliding with Princeton’s Daniel Ittycheria, the contact was deemed egregious following a very quick review.

The cards stacked up throughout the night for the Pirates as they received three yellow cards and one red card on the night. Shortly after, Princeton’s three and a half game shutout streak was broken as Aidan Tisony tied the game for the Pirates off assists from Axel Berglund and Agustin Resch, making it a 1-1 game.

The Pirates now had some life, but immediately afterwards, Princeton took the lead right back as Ittycheria scored on a beautiful shot to make it a 2-1 game.

The game continued to get chippy as some shoving took place over deep in the obstructed corner, and soon after, Bardia Hormozi put the game away for the Tigers as in the 77th minute, as he won a battle for the ball with Giacomo Mana, and scored on a dart to put the Tigers up 3-1.

With the loss, the Pirates now direct their attention back to BIG EAST play, as they take their first road trip since August 30th when they travel to Wisconsin on Saturday to play Marquette.  Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
