SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall Women’s basketball team (19-8, 11-5) looks to keep the momentum going when they take on DePaul (12-17, 7-9) on senior night at historic Walsh Gymnasium.
Coming off a commanding 66-57 victory against St. John's (14-13, 4-12), Seton Hall officially clinched a first-round bye in the Big East Tournament, guaranteeing no worse than the number five seed. The Pirates will look to improve their resume further with a win against the Blue Demons in their final home game of the year.
Savannah Catalon led the charge with 19 points in Queens, continuing her impressive rebound from injury earlier in the year. Catalon has been a catalyst for the team on both sides of the ball, being a top scorer while drawing a plethora of charges on defense. She may not be a senior, but this sophomore is certainly someone to look out for against DePaul.
Diving deeper, standout forward Faith Masonius had a solid 16 points last game and will look to make an impact on the final senior night of her collegiate career. Masonius has been a bright spot for this team throughout the season and will likely be an important piece for the Hall in the Big East tournament.
The Pirates will likely be without breakout freshman Jada Eads, who left the St John’s game early with an injury. Eads (who averages 14.4 points a game) will be a loss for the Hall, but there is certainly no shortage of talent on this squad.
Looking to the rest of the team, players such as Yaya Lops and Amari Wright will be key in the final two regular season games if the Pirates want to finish off the year well. While Catalon, Masonius and Eads have been powerhouses on offense, there is a need for players such as Lops and Wright, who notch important assists and rebounds on the stat sheet.
In their last matchup at Chicago, the Pirates were able to defeat the Blue Demons commandingly, 72-55. DePaul has had their fair share of struggles throughout the year, and a trip to Walsh Gymnasium on Seton Hall senior night surely will not help.
With the momentum that the Hall has, along with the electric atmosphere that comes with every single Pirates home game, the odds certainly lie in favor of the home team here.
Seton Hall will look to finish their home slate of games this season off strong, when they take on DePaul on Thursday. Tipoff is set for 7:00 P.M., with Brian Henderson and Bobby Steiner on the call. Pregame coverage begins at 6:30 P.M., with Victor Gonzalez and Chris Jones breaking it down in studio.
