PHILADELPHIA, P.A. -- The Seton Hall Pirates (3-0-2) defeated the Drexel Dragons (1-1-4) by a score of 2-0 on Sunday afternoon. Following back to back ties, Seton Hall entered Sunday’s match determined to get back to their winning ways.

The Pirates displayed an excellent ability to maximize any and all opportunities presented to them in this contest. Despite having only three shots on goal throughout the match’s entirety, the Hall capitalized when it mattered most to secure the victory. It speaks to the maturity of what is a fairly young group to remain composed in these long matchups and capitalize on any given opportunity.

Pirates’ midfielder Gianna Angelillo continued her red hot start to her 2025 campaign as she notched her fifth goal of the season. The shot was assisted by a spectacular cross into the box from Nina Davis.

In the 58th minute, Abby Udowenko capitalized off of an errand pass from the Drexel keeper, leading to Nina Davis scoring her second goal of the season and extending the Pirates’ lead. Making the most of the opportunities handed to them was the key to Seton Hall’s game all throughout the match.

Through their first five contests the Pirates’ defense has proven to be sturdy and resilient, which has been a key factor in their current unbeaten record.

In Saturday’s match, Seton Hall was outshot 15-7 by Drexel, as they faced significant pressure all match long. However, the backline was very much up to the task. Avery Strohecker was once again excellent, recording seven saves against Drexel’s relentless offensive attack.

Seton Hall’s 3-0-2 record marks the first time that they have remained undefeated through their first five matches since 2012. Despite a completely refreshed roster, the young core is already creating a name for themselves to start this new era of Seton Hall Women’s Soccer.

The defensive unit has bent, but very rarely has broken, and their offense already appears to be more opportunistic and aggressive than years prior. While there are still a few more games to go before Big East play commences, the Hall are developing great habits and play that will be very important once conference play begins.

Looking ahead, Seton Hall heads to Newark next Sunday where they will continue non-conference play against the NJIT Highlanders at 1:00 P.M.
