WASHINGTON, D.C. - Despite being down 11 at one point in the second half, the Seton Hall Pirates (14-2, 4-1) came back to defeat the Georgetown Hoyas (9-7, 1-4) 76-67 on the road.

The struggles started early in this game for the Pirates, as after starting the scoring with a two-pointer, Seton Hall would trail for the majority of the first half. The Pirates would tie up the score off of a 9-2 run to tie it at 27 with under a minute to go, and would go into the break tied at 29 with the Hoyas.

Seton Hall had difficulty with taking care of the ball, as they had 7 turnovers in the first half, and the Hoyas capitalized by securing six points off of that. On the other hand, Georgetown had five turnovers but the Pirates could only turn it into two points.

Behind the arc, Georgetown started hot shooting 2/3, and ended the half 3/7. Seton Hall could not find their rhythm from the three-point line shooting just 1/9.

What kept the pirates in the first half were second chance points. The Pirates had nine off of their nine offensive rebounds. Both teams did a good job of limiting the other team’s strengths. Georgetown limited the good looks Seton Hall had, forcing the Pirates to take shots beyond the arc.

The second half started quick with Seton Hall making 3/6 from the field and Georgetown making 4/7 including three from beyond the arc in the first four minutes making it 44-36 in favor of Georgetown.

Over the next four minutes, the two teams settled in and after a three from Georgetown, Seton Hall was able to go on a run of 8-0 to cut the deficit to three. Over the next three minutes they would extend that run to 16-4 to take the lead 52-51.

The Hoyas would retake a slim lead for the next three minutes before an and-one from TJ Simpkins that would give the lead back to the Pirates, 59-57. The Hall would extend that lead to 67-57 and despite giving up a few more baskets, Seton Hall would come away with the win, 76-67.

Seton Hall was able to turn this game around by playing sound basketball. They cleaned up their early mistakes and capitalized on Georgetown’s shortcomings.

Budd Clark had a season-high 22 points and 6 rebounds, while Tajuan Simpkins came off the bench, complementing Clark with 17 on the night. Najai Hines played his role in the paint, limiting Georgetown’s big man, Vince Iwuchukwu, to 10 points and two offensive rebounds.

With another second half comeback, Seton Hall proved once again that they are able to settle in and play good basketball in the face of adversity. Tonight’s victory was Seton Hall’s third straight double digit second half deficit comeback win.

Seton Hall moves to third in the BIG EAST standings and will now get set for a home showdown against the #4 UConn Huskies Tuesday night at the Prudential Center.  Lauren Reese and AJ Rayer will have all the action on 89.5 WSOU FM, with tipoff set for 8 p.m.
