HARRISON, N.J. - For the first time ever, the St. Louis City SC (13-6-8) and Red Bull New York (9-11-7) played each other in an MLS matchup. The game started out strong with the Red Bulls welcoming back Daniel Edelman, who was back at Sport Illustrated Stadium for the first time since moving to St. Louis.

St. Louis came out swinging, with forward Rafael Navarro scoring the team’s first goal of the night in only the 5th minute. The Red Bulls tried to answer back in the 11th minute after some aggressive offense, Mohammed Sofo managed to get a shot on goal, but it went just wide left.

The Red Bulls kept up the aggressive offense for a few more minutes, allowing Jorge Ruvalcaba to also make an attempt on the net in the 15th minute, which also went wide.

After those two attempts to answer the rapid goal from St. Louis, the Red Bulls seemed to fall back a little, and began to focus more on defense and holding St. Louis at midfield. RBNY remained physical though with Julián Bazán fouling Carlo Hoise of St. Louis in the 18th minute, leading to a free kick.

Thankfully for the Red Bulls though, the free kick was unsuccessful. Cade Cowell managed to get another shot off on the St. Louis' goal, but it was stopped in a tremendous save from Roman Bürki.

Things started to heat up towards the end of the first half with St. Louis’s Timo Baumgarti receiving a yellow card. However, nothing came to fruition as the first half ended 1-0. Once the second half started, the Red Bulls showed much more energy. They came out with a shot on goal that was barely saved by Bürki.

Despite the new aggressive energy from the Red Bulls, they remained well matched by St. Louis. St. Louis then made an attempt on goal that was blocked in an incredible save by Ethan Horvath. However, St. Louis received another free kick in the 57th minute, giving Horvath another block.

After a series of substitutions by both teams, the tide began to turn against the Red Bulls. Emil Forsberg received a yellow card in the 86th minute after an altercation with one of the St. Louis players. After even more substitutions by both teams, Becher managed to score another goal for STL in the 87th minute.

Just four minutes later, Tomáš Ostrák scored the 3rd and final goal of the night for St. Louis. With very little time to recover, the Red Bulls were unable to score any points against St. Louis and the game ended 3-0. The Red Bulls play again on October 10th when they host San Diego FC at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
