SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall Pirates opened their season with a statement win over the Saint Peter’s Peacocks by a score of 88–39 on Tuesday night.

The game immediately started with Jordana Codio getting a steal and layup for the Pirates’ first points of the year. Codio led the way in this game by putting up 20 points.

Then, a couple plays later, freshman Zahara Bishop came into the game and knocked down a three to put Seton Hall in front. In her collegiate debut, she put together 15 points, knocking down six of her eight shots, including two of three from three-point range.

Then it was Codio who drilled a three while drawing a foul for a four-point play. By the end of the first quarter, Seton Hall led 25–8.

The second quarter showed just how dangerous this team can be when they turn defense into offense. Jada Eads stole the ball from Louella Allana right after catching the inbound off the press and then hit a step back three-pointer, putting Seton Hall up 32-10.

The Pirates then closed the half on an 11–0 run, heading into the locker room up 50–19. Seton Hall did not take their foot off the gas in the third, though, as Savannah Catalon made plays on both ends of the court, getting a steal and hitting a three-pointer off the fast break to put the Pirates up 62-23.

The third quarter was also when Zahara Bishop started to heat up from mid-range. The fourth quarter showed how deep this Pirates lineup can be, as sophomore Ja’Kahla Craft scored 13 points on six of nine shooting, including multiple fast‑break layups showing her fast-paced playstyle.

Cam Rust also did well in this quarter, posting nine points while even hitting a three of her own towards the end. Savannah Catalon and Mariana Valenzuela performed well in the paint, both grabbing eight rebounds.

Overall, the Pirates dominated this game on all cylinders where they held the Peacocks to just 27 percent shooting and 14 percent from three. The Pirates also dominated the rebounding battle 52–31, including 21 offensive boards that led to 20 second chance points.

Their defense forced 24 turnovers, turning them into 34 points, and they outscored the Peacocks 30–0 on the fast break. Seton Hall, after winning this one by a substantial margin, will look to build off their momentum heading into their first road game against San Francisco on Friday, November 14 at 7:00 P.M. where Lauren Reese and Joe Morales will be on the call.
