SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall women’s basketball team is riding high after a dramatic buzzer-beater win over Villanova on New Year’s Day. Coming off the emotional 56-55 road victory, the Pirates are looking to extend their perfect start to BIG EAST play when they host the Georgetown Hoyas at Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Aiming for their first ever 4-0 record to start conference play, as well as remain undefeated in 2025, the Hall have plenty of momentum on their side after the thrilling finish in PA.
Faith Masonius played the hero in last game’s win over the Wildcats, hitting a reverse lay-up as time expired to seal the victory. The graduate forward’s poise in the clutch moment was on full display, as she helped the Pirates improve to 3-0 to start conference play, the first time they have done so since 2015-16.
Masonius, who has been a reliable force for Seton Hall all season, has brought leadership and big-game experience. She will be counted on again as the Pirates face another tough challenge in Georgetown, who were predicted fifth in the conference’s preseason poll.
Seton Hall have been boosted by the impressive play of freshman star Jada Eads, who has provided a much-needed spark for the Pirates. Eads has tallied double-digit points in six consecutive games, and has been a revelation since joining the team. Her energy and scoring ability have been essential, especially after star guard Savannah Catalon went down with an injury earlier this season. Eads’ contributions have filled the void left by Catalon, and her impact has been undeniable.
The Pirates will face a stiff test in Georgetown, an 8-5 team that has shown resilience and skill under newly promoted head coach Darnell Haney. Leading the charge for the Hoyas is graduate student Kelsey Ransom, a New Jersey native who has continuously been a standout for Georgetown throughout her career.
Ransom averages 20 points and six rebounds per game, and her scoring ability will be key for the Hoyas looking to prevail. Alongside Ransom is Ariel Jenkins, who has been dominant in the paint, averaging a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds per game. Jenkins’ presence in the post will provide a tough matchup for the Pirates, particularly within them maintaining their defensive intensity.
Saturday’s game promises to be an exciting conference clash at Walsh. Seton Hall will aim to continue its unbeaten run in the conference, as well as prove that their buzzer-beating victory over Villanova was just the beginning of a special season. With the crowd's energy, the leadership of veterans like Masonius, and the dynamic play of Eads, the Pirates are ready for what should be another thrilling battle.
