UNCASVILLE, CONNECTICUT - The Seton Hall Pirates (8-2) travel up to a familiar site in Uncasville, Connecticut to take on the fifth-ranked Louisiana State Tigers (12-0) in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase at Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday night.
Last time out, The Hall took on Le Moyne in the team’s final home non-conference game and were victorious 68-41. In that matchup, freshman Jada Eads scored a game-high 19 points and graduate student Faith Masonius recorded her 1,000th career point. The Pirates led from the opening tip to the final buzzer for their fourth straight win.
Tuesday's contest at Mohegan Sun Arena will only be the second meeting between Seton Hall and LSU all-time. The last time these two teams played each other was back in 2010 when the Tigers were victorious 58-40 in Walsh Gymnasium.
Scouting the LSU, the Tigers are coming off a highly successful season last year under head coach Kim Mulkey, where the team finished with a 31-6 final record and a trip to the NCAA Regional Final. Looking ahead to this season, LSU is one of few undefeated teams left in the country and ranked nationally at five. Four Tigers are currently averaging in double-figures in scoring, led by Flau'Jae Johnson's 21.1 points per game. Another Tiger averaging double-digit points might be a familiar name to Pirates’ fans and that is DePaul transfer Aneesah Morrow who is averaging a double-double with 17.8 points and 13.7 rebounds per game.
A key to the game for the Pirates will be relying on their team identity of defense. In the Tigers 12 wins this season, they average a margin of victory of +36.0 and are averaging 93.7 points per game. Seton Hall has forced more turnovers than its opponent in all 10 games so far this year and the Pirates have held six opponents under 55 points so a tall task is ahead for this scrappy Pirates squad.
This is the final non-conference game for the Pirates before they return home to South Orange to open up a tough BIG EAST slate starting with the Providence Friars on Saturday.
Pregame coverage on 89.5 FM WSOU kicks off at 5:45 p.m., with CJ Weipz and Pat Corsello breaking down the matchup. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m., with Bobby Steiner and Michael Bellifemini on the call from Mohegan Sun Arena.
