QUEENS, N.Y. - The Seton Hall Pirates (18-29) fell in both games of a double header on Friday to the St. John’s Red Storm (31-20) and then dropped the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon.
It was a back and forth matchup in game one with both teams exchanging blows throughout the entire game. However, the Pirates were unable to rally back in the seventh. For the second game, it was a different story, as it was all St. Johns and the Pirates could not seem to get anything going offensively.
Karissa Dupuis had a rough day on the mound, allowing seven hits, six runs, walking three and striking out none. However, her record is evened out at seven wins and seven losses on the season.
Kyra Kreuscher took the mound for game two, unfortunately unable to withstand the Johnies, allowing eleven hits, eight runs, and getting five strikeouts. Her record is now 2-10 on the season.
Lorely Francia for the Johnies had a similar day to Dupuis, only pitching three innings, allowing six hits, four runs, and walking three batters with only one strike out. In game two, it was lights out for the Red Storm, with Francia continuing her outing by pitching six scoreless innings and only allowing four hits and tallying four strikeouts to add to her outing.
The hitting for the Pirates was neck and neck with the Red Storm in game one, with the Pirates knocking nine hits, and the Red Storm knocking ten hits respectively. The main hitters for the Pirates were Naya Martinez, with one run, two hits, one RBI, and two stolen bases, showing off her wheels in the process of a productive day.
In the third game of the series on Sunday, the Pirates were beaten once again, losing their season series against the Johnnies. Dupuis took the mound once more, only pitching one inning after allowing five runs and seven hits with no strikeouts on Friday.
Hitting for the Pirates had some steam however, with the team amassing five runs with Erin Howard leading the charge. Angelina Benitez, had two runs of her own on one hit and Naya Martinez was effective once more, scoring a run, a hit and earning a walk.
The Pirates have two games left in the regular season to break this six game skid that they are on when they take on the Iona Gaels in a doubleheader on Tuesday. The first game is set for 2:00 P.M. with the second scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
