OMAHA, N.E. – The Seton Hall Pirates (11-16) suffered three difficult losses in their weekend series against the Creighton Bluejays (18-15), only putting up three runs across the three game sweep.

Despite a solid effort from the Pirates bullpen, Seton Hall fell to the Bluejays decisively in game one by a score of 5-0.

Creighton got on the board early with a solo homer from Nate McHugh broke the ice. Later in the first, Isaac Wachsmann scored Ben North off an RBI double.

Steven Svenson shut down Creighton from the mound until the bottom of the fourth. Wachsmann sent a two-run bomb over the left field fence, scoring North again and pushing the Bluejays out to a 4-0 lead.

Ryan Reich put up a solid relief effort once Svenson was pulled, striking out five batters and shutting down the Bluejays two innings before being pulled. Creighton put up one more in the bottom of the eight with Stephen Curry on the mound.

The Pirates offense found its only momentum of the day late in the game but failed to capitalize. Five batters were left on base in the final three innings.

In game two, Seton Hall was able to get on the board early, before yet another disappointing afternoon at the bats, falling 9-1.

Gabe Cavazzoni led off with a walk, stealing second base shortly thereafter. Ryan Frontera and Nick Tomasetto both put the ball in play to drive Cavazzoni home.

The Pirates were shutout for the rest of the game while the Bluejays pulled ahead. Creighton tied things up with an RBI double in the bottom of the first. A two-run single from McHugh scored Nick Venteicher and Rocco Gump, handing Creighton a 3-1 lead. The Bluejays gradually grew their lead, scoring one run or more in six out of eight innings.

Seton Hall ended the game with only three hits. Five pitchers took the mound as the Pirates struggled to rein in Creighton’s bats.

The Pirates took another rough loss on Sunday, giving up 12 hits that included three home runs, with Creighton completing the sweep in a 9-2 win.

A three-inning pitching duel opened the game. Mason Christopher and Wilson Magers struck out a combined eight batters. Both teams got on the board in the third, leaving the game tied at 1-1. Tommy Manzo grounded out, driving in Aiden Dill, while Wachsmann hit a left field homer for the Bluejays.

Creighton surged into the lead in the fourth. A two-run home run off the bat of Venteicher scored Connor Capece, while McHugh scored on the final play to put things at 4-1.

Two more scoreless innings went by before the Bluejays put up four runs in the bottom of the seventh. A three run homer from North was followed with an unearned run off a past ball.

Seton Hall struck back in the eighth. Ryan Strnad scored following a walk from Manzo and a single from Cavazzoni, putting things at 8-2. The Pirates failed to fully capitalize on the momentum, leaving Creighton to seize the win.

Following the sweep, the Pirates will return home for a midweek clash against the Rider Broncs on Tuesday, April 14th at 4 p.m.
