SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Seton Hall Pirates (6-10, 0-3) dropped the third and final game in a weekend series against the Creighton Bluejays (9-14, 3-0). The first two games of this series saw the Pirates facing double-digit deficits, with game two ending in five innings. But game three brought a different script, as it was the Pirates who started the game off hot.

The Pirates got the bases loaded in the first inning and scored two runs on sacrifice fly and an RBI single, giving them an early 2-0 lead.

Bluejays third baseman Erika Perez responded in the second inning on a pitch from Karissa Dupuis, to nail a three-run homer to right center field to put Creighton up 3-2.

The third inning went scoreless for both teams, but in the fourth it was déjà vu for Creighton. Center fielder Ella Dalton homered to right field for another three-run homer, this one to give the Bluejays a 6-2 lead.

The fourth inning kept both teams busy, though, as the Pirates also responded with three runs of their own. It started with Christina Ginex reaching home on a sacrifice fly. Sophia DeMarco also had a busy afternoon as she earned two more RBIs on another single, allowing Angelina Benitez and Andrea Perez to score to cut it to 6-5 Bluejays.

Perez was then able to register her first RBI in the bottom of the fifth when Gabby Mercado reached home on a fielder’s choice to tie the game at 6-6.

The sixth inning was scoreless and quick, but the seventh inning was busy again for the Bluejays. An error and a pair of RBI singles racked up their third inning in which they scored three runs. This put the Bluejays up 9-6.

Perez earned her second RBI in the bottom of the seventh when she singled to right field and allowed catcher Erin Howard to score. However, the final two batters could not reach base, ending the game with a final score of 9-7.

The Pirates put up a valiant effort to their credit, but a pair of three-run homers may have sealed the deal for Creighton.

Although the Pirates only registered one strikeout, the pitching seemed more disciplined in comparison to the first two games where it got out of hand for the Pirates early. The Pirates also recorded more hits than Creighton 11-10.

After winning five in a row at the Paladin Invitational in South Carolina, the Pirates dropped their first three games of their first home stand of the season.

The Pirates will look to respond on Wednesday in a doubleheader against Wagner in Staten Island. Game one is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. and game two is scheduled for 4:00 P.M.
