SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall Pirates (6-20, 0-15) welcomed the number 12 ranked Creighton Blue Jays (23-5, 16-0) to Historic Walsh Gymnasium on Saturday evening, where the Pirates fell short in straight sets, 3-0.

In a back and forth first set, both sides recorded kills and forced errors all the way up until the score was 6-6. A total of six ties were in the matchup. Then the Blue Jays went on a 3-0 run all credited to kills from Nora Wurtz and Ava Martin respectively and a service ace by Saige Damrow to get the score to 9-6 in favor of the Blue Jays.

A challenge by the Pirates proved to be a big turning point for Seton Hall as Creighton had a chance to go up four, but the Pirates were awarded the point and were able to trim the lead to two at 9-7.

The Pirates would come storming back to keep things competitive at 11-10, but then a series of attack errors and service errors from the Pirates would allow Creighton to go on an 8-1 run, and the score sat at 19-11.

The Pirates would fight again, but the Creighton lead was too much to overcome, and they would go on to win the set at 25-14.

A total of four ties dictated the start of the second set, but a miscommunication by the Pirates would prove to be the turning point in the game as Creighton would go on a 15-2 run, and the score was 19-6.

The Pirates would end that run off of a kill from Hanna Labanowska and the score would stand at 19-7.

Seton Hall would fight back a little to keep the game competitive and go on a 3-1 run, but that was quickly ended by the Blue Jays. Ava Martin would close out the set for the Blue Jays as they would take set two, 25-13.

Creighton dominated the Pirates in this last set and showed why they are the number 12 team in the country.

Creighton quickly got off to a 3-0 lead and the Pirates looked like they had no answer but responded with a kill from Labanowska.

After that, the Blue Jays would go on a 9-1 run to make the score 10-1 in favor of the Blue Jays. The Pirates would record one more kill from Daria Safian to end the Blue Jays’ run.

Continuing a series of more runs would take place, and then it was all Creighton as the Pirates would record a couple more points to keep things competitive. However, the lead was just a little too much to overcome.

With this loss, the Pirates will look ahead to their last game of the season on Senior Night where the St. John’s Red Storm will come to Walsh Gymnasium for a 1:00 P.M. match.
