SOUTH ORANGE, N.J - The Seton Hall Pirates (8-10) swept the Georgetown Hoyas (8-10) in three sets, bouncing back from their 3-1 loss to the DePaul Blue Demons on Sunday. This is the Pirates’ eighth win of the season and third in conference play, snapping their three-game losing streak as well.

The Pirates have been a bit banged up lately being without key players such as Rylee Nelson, Gwen Adler, and Hanna Tulli. However, that didn’t matter much, as the Pirates showed enough perseverance in this one to complete the sweep.

Perri Lucas was on fire, collecting 13 kills with no service errors for her squad. Maddie Klungel provided strength as well, collecting her sixth double-double of the season, with 31 assists and 10 digs today. This was also a milestone game for Klungel, as she surpassed her previous career high of 507 assists; after today, she now has 510 and counting within this season.

It was all Pirates in set one, demolishing the Hoyas by a score of 25-12. At one point, The Hall were up 12-2, as they scored twelve of the first fourteen points of the match. The Hoyas had no answer for the Pirates' offense, and the blue and white ended things quickly.

Despite the loss to DePaul on Sunday, coach Shannon Thompson liked what she saw from her group. It was Senna Roberts-Navarro who led the charge against DePaul, after coming off the bench and getting the start tonight against the Hoyas. She put up six kills through the match and had the winning set point in the first frame.

After the Pirates steamrolled in set one, sets two and three were a bit of a different story, as the Pirates had to hang on to smaller leads within them. Set two saw the closest action, with multiple ties and lead changes testing the Pirates' tenacity. Despite the Pirates leading by only two towards the end of it, kills from Lucas and Maddy Loiselle ensured the set two win 25-20.

The third and final set saw the Pirates comfortably continue their success, with 15 kills, only two attack errors, and a whopping .464 attacking percentage. They won the frame by a secure score of 25-19, with the match-winning kill courtesy of Laila Wallace.

The Pirates successfully grabbed their second sweep of the season (their first coming against NJIT earlier this season), as well as their first sweep in Big East play, in front of their home crowd. Thompson’s squad move to 8-10 on the season and 2-5 in conference. They will look to utilize this energy at their next matchup in Hinkle Fieldhouse against the struggling Butler Bulldogs, who have been swept in five of their six conference matchups.

With the Pirates handling Georgetown comfortably, only time will tell if they can keep this momentum rolling in Indianapolis.
