SAN FRANCISCO, C.A. -- The Seton Hall Pirates (1-0) head West to face a familiar opponent, the San Francisco Dons (1-1) at War Memorial at the Sobrato Center. This will be the fourth all-time meeting between the programs, with Seton Hall winning last year’s matchup at Historic Walsh Gymnasium, 59-53.
Seton Hall enters the matchup after starting the season on a strong note, picking up a win in their home opener against the Saint Peter’s Peacocks 88-39. The 49-point margin is the Pirates’ largest margin of victory in a season opener since the 2018-19 season.
Texas transfer Jordana Codio led the way for Seton Hall, erupting for a career-high 20 points, shooting seven of thirteen from the floor and two of five from behind the arc in under 16 minutes of playing time. Her standout performance earned her a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
Alongside Codio, other players that stepped up in this matchup include freshman Zahara Bishop, who put up 15 points on an efficient six for eight from the floor and two of three from behind the arc in under 14 minutes of play. Another key contributor was returning sophomore Ja’Kahla Craft, who finished with a career-high 13 points, including 10 in the fourth quarter.
The Pirates racked up 52 boards in this win, the most since pulling down 53 boards against Xavier on Jan 16, 2019.
On the other hand, San Francisco comes into this season after graduating nine seniors from last year's team and the majority of the rest of the 2024-25 team entering the transfer portal. Therefore, they have a new team made up of two returners and 11 new faces.
They enter the matchup after falling short to the Boise State Broncos by a score of 83-68. In this matchup, they had two double-digit scorers in the game, including redshirt sophomore Paula Tirado, who missed her entire freshman season due to injury.
Freshman Noelia Mourino also was in double figures, posting 11 points and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
A key for Seton Hall will be to take advantage of San Francisco’s lack of free throw shooting, as they only connect on 55.9 % from the charity stripe.
In addition, the Dons turn the ball over at a high rate of 20.0 turnovers per game. Seton Hall forced Saint Peter’s to 24 turnovers, so they could force San Francisco to do the same.
Tipoff is set for Friday, November 14 at 9:00 P.M where Lauren Reese and Joe Morales will have the call.
