SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall Pirates (18-8, 12-5 CONF) return to Historic Walsh Gymnasium looking to extend their win streak to four in a row on Sunday and get even with the St. John’s Red Storm (20-9, 10-8 CONF) after falling to them 67-61 last time they played in Queens.
The Pirates look to keep their tournament hopes alive with a victory against the Red Storm. The Hall look to keep the hot hand cooking, with Jordana Codio dropping 22 points on the Xavier Musketeers. In the game, Savannah Catalon also dropped 16 points, Mariana Valenzuela posted 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Zahara Bishop had 10 points as well.
Seton Hall was firing on all cylinders against Xavier, a mentality they look to hang onto and bring to their last three games and into the BIG EAST tournament. With this type of chemistry, they can make a deep run into the tournament and make a late stage bid for the big dance.
Codio was on another level in this game, taking over from start to finish and establishing herself as a key piece of this team, posting an all-around game for this team with the absence of Jada Eads and brief absence of Valenzuela. However, she came back and still played her heart out finishing the game strong.
Red Storm players to watch out for this contest are Sa’Mya Wyatt, who posted 20 points on the Pirates, Beautiful Waheed who dropped 14 points, and Brooke Moore who put 10 points on them, causing issues for the Pirates up and down the court throughout their last encounter.
The Pirates look to win out the rest of the way to keep their hopes of an NCAA Tournament bid alive, of course with the exception of winning the BIG EAST tournament.
Join Joe Morales and Christian Oliveri on the call for 89.5 FM WSOU on Sunday for 1:00 P.M. tipoff and coverage beginning at 12:30.
