SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall women’s basketball team (11-5, 5-2 CONF) returns home Wednesday for a battle with the Marquette Golden Eagles (11-5, 5-2 CONF). There is plenty at stake for both programs in terms of seeding and NCAA Tournament resumes with the BIG EAST schedule now almost halfway over.

The Pirates are coming off a win in Providence and their second straight contest without all-conference point guard Jada Eads. Despite scoring just 18 points in the first half, the Hall rallied in the final 20 and won by a score of 58-48. Jordana Codio finished with a game-high 17 points, while three other Pirates scored in double figures.

Marquette flies into South Orange 55th in the NCAA’s NET rankings, making the Golden Eagles a quad two opponent for Seton Hall. Including Wednesday, the Pirates only have three more opportunities to earn quad one or two wins.

One of those games comes at home against No. 1 Connecticut. Marquette’s ranking of 55 is the final spot in Quad 2 territory for a home opponent, meaning if they drop below their current ranking, it becomes a Quad 3 game. In short, this game means a lot for Seton Hall’s at-large hopes.

The Golden Eagles are a prolific three-point shooting team. Marquette sits second in the country at 39.9%, a 9.2% increase from last year. Six of the eight players with at least ten attempts are shooting above a 40% clip.

It is easy to improve at such a high rate with continuity. The Golden Eagles are the only Division I women’s college basketball team to return all of its players from the 2024-25 season, an incredible feat by second-year head coach Cara Consuegra.

Marquette's two losses this season came to Connecticut and a home game against St. John’s, which goes down as a quad four loss.

Last season, both teams won the road games in the two matchups, with the Pirates picking up their first win at the Al McGuire Center in program history. Marquette leads the all-time series 21-12, having won three of the last five meetings against the Pirates.
