QUEENS, N.Y. -- The Seton Hall Pirates (6-12) continue to search for their first conference win after a loss to the St. John’s Red Storm (6-14) on Tuesday afternoon.

The first set of the contest saw eight ties, as both teams were neck and neck until St. John’s took control late. Sadie Reich scored a kill and gave the Pirates a bit of an edge at 17-16, but the Red Storm came back with a response of their own and scored five straight points to take the lead in the set.

The Red Storm won the first set 25-19 after Seton Hall created nine kills but nine errors.

In the second set, Seton Hall started off rough, which allowed the Red Storm to take
an early 9-3 lead to start the set. Freshman Daria Safian scored a kill and cut the Pirates’ deficit to 15-10 but St. John’s was able to keep their foot on the gas and score
seven points and take the lead 22-11.

The Red Storm were able to take a 2-0 lead on the match by winning the set 25-13.

After trailing 8-4, the Pirates were able to rally and score five points and take a 9-8 lead in the third set. Seton Hall would go on to win the set 25-17 after an important ace by Asli Subasili, and a kill by Alexis Opland.

In the fourth set, the Pirates were down early 4-1, but quickly turned things around after going on a 5-1 scoring run that gave them a 6-5 lead. St. John’s was then able to come back and score the next five points and eventually win the set 20-14, and therefore the match 3-1.

Freshmen Safian and Reich had a combined 21 kills, but it was not enough to defeat the Red Storm. The Pirates will be back in action when they travel to Omaha, Nebraska to face the reigning Big East champion Creighton Blue Jays Sunday, October 19 at 1:30 P.M.
