CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Seton Hall Pirates took on the Xavier Musketeers today at Corcoran Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Hall was looking to build a win streak after swiping a 1-0 victory over Providence last week. Additionally, they were eager to continue an offensive-heavy style of play because of their challenging upcoming schedule. Unfortunately, the Pirates fell to the Musketeers by a score of three goals to zero. They now sit at a 4-7-3 record, while Xavier sits at a 12-1-2 on their own four-game win streak.

The Musketeers took the lead in the first half of play, but not before knocking on the door with six shots within the first 26 minutes. Brooklynn Miltenberger broke through and found her first goal of the season on a header in the 27th minute, with an assist by Samantha Wiehe. Shortly after at the 35-minute mark, Musketeer Samantha Erbach fired a shot on net past Pirate goalkeeper Anna Prawer to put Xavier up two.

Six minutes later, Xavier increased the Hall’s deficit to three. Elin Hansson found her third goal of the season, with the assist coming from Erbach. The first half of play ended with the same scoreline, and The Hall were outshot by Xavier 12-4.

The second half of play kicked off, and was a very slow game of soccer, but The Hall was still persistent. The Pirates’ offense outshot Xavier in the second half 5-4, yet no chances could be converted into goals. Pirates’ Natalie Tavana and Phoebe Hampson each had a couple of shots, but their shots were off-target and blocked.

The match ended 3-0, with the Musketeers outshooting the Pirates 16-9, as well as leading in corner kick opportunities 14-2. Xavier goalkeeper Maria Galley ended her afternoon with four saves, while Prawer had three goals allowed and three saves, while Avery Strohecker had a save as well. The contest ended with 22 total fouls, majority coming in the second half.

Xavier are tied for first in the Big East conference, while Seton Hall are tied for fourth. Seton Hall will try again to bounce back into the win column, as they matchup against the DePaul Blue Demons in Chicago, Illinois this Thursday at 4 p.m.
