SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - After taking the first two games of the series, Seton Hall (22-29, 8-10) fell flat on offense in their final home game of the season against Georgetown (15-37, 3-15) as they were taken down 6-0 on Sunday afternoon. With the loss and St. John's win, the Pirates were eliminated from BIG EAST tournament contention.

Redshirt Senior Cole Hansen started on the mound for the Pirates, making his final career start at Mike Sheppard Sr. Stadium. The first few innings proved to be a pitchers duel, with Hansen and Georgetown’s Andrew Williams making quick work of the opposing offenses.

The ice was broken in the top of the 5th, as Georgetown’s Jeremy Sheffield smoked a one out double to left center field. Just moments later, Ashton Seymore crushed a two home run over the left field fence. Georgetown’s hitters were starting to time up Hansen.

Hansen got back into a groove after a rough 5th inning as he retired eight Hoyas in a row. It was not until the 8th inning when Georgetown opened the floodgates on the Pirates.

Seymore started the 8th with a deep home run to left field, followed by a one out triple from Kavi Caster. Hansen then allowed Caster to score on a pass ball, making the score 4-0.

The Pirates had an opportunity to get out of the inning on a two out pop fly to the right side of the infield, but a costly error by 1B Nick Ferri kept the inning alive. Hansen was pulled from the game at 110 pitches. His final stat line was 7.2 innings pitched, five hits, four earned runs, and eight strikeouts.

Patrick Benn came in relief for the Pirates, and soon gave up a double to Sheffield which added another two runs before the inning came to a close.

The Pirates bats stayed cold in the 8th and 9th, as Georgetown rolled to the easy win. Georgetown snapped a seven game losing streak and picked up their fourth road win of the season.

Georgetown LHP Andrew Williams had one of the best outings of his career on Sunday for the Hoyas. He pitched a complete game shutout, giving up five hits, three walks, while striking out just three Pirates. Williams forced the Pirates into weak contact all day and relied heavily on his defense.

Seton Hall had their opportunities at the plate, but ultimately could not convert when they needed to, going 0/5 with runners in scoring position. Georgetown, on the other hand, went 4/7 with runners in scoring position.

With St. John’s 6-3 win over Villanova on Sunday, the Pirates are officially eliminated from BIG EAST Tournament contention. They will look to wrap up their season on a good note when they begin a three game series against Villanova. That series begins on Friday in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
