VILLANOVA, P.A. - After the Villanova Wildcats (9-33, 5-13) took game one of the series in comeback fashion, the Seton Hall Pirates (15-23, 5-13) won the last two games of the weekend set.

The series started off rocky for the Pirates, as they held the lead through five innings only to lose it later on.

However, in this game the Pirates built up strong momentum for the rest of the weekend, shutting out the Wildcats across the final two games and winning each by a score of 4-0.

In the second game, it was a duel of the pitchers. Kyra Kreuscher of the Hall threw 67 strikes, 118 pitches, and allowed only five hits.

Villanova’s pitchers for that game, Maranda Runco and Lexi Kobryn also displayed incredibly strong pitching with Seton Hall’s runs for that game coming off of home runs from Naya Martinez and Katey Brennan, as well as taking advantage of fielding errors from Villanova.

The fourth and fifth innings of the second game was where the Pirates scored their runs, and for the next two innings of the game, Kyra Kreuscher allowed no Villanova runs, leading to the first shutout of the series.

The momentum of a win coming into the final game of the series gave the Pirates what they needed to take home the win. Incredibly impressive pitching from Karissa Dupuis led to another shutout against Villanova.

Dupuis allowed no hits until the sixth inning and only one runner from Villanova made it to third base in the whole game, which was in the bottom of the seventh. That runner turned into the final out on the base path, ending the game there..

In the third inning, Katey Brennan nailed a homerun with Olivia Chavez on third and Christina Ginex at first to score three runs for the Pirates and score the first runs of the game. Later in the sixth inning, Naya Martinez hit a home run to add a final insurance run to the Pirates lead.

Throughout the rest of the game due to strong pitching from Karissa Dupuis and even stronger fielding from the Pirates team, Villanova was not able to come back from the deficit and lost the game, sealing the Pirates victory of the game and the series.

Overall it was a strong weekend for the Pirates, even with the first game loss. They made a huge show out offensively, with the team launching five home runs across all three games and both Kyra Kreuscher and Karissa Dupuis making incredibly strong and impressive pitching showouts, and Dupuis getting her first shutout of the season.

The Pirates will look to build on their momentum when they return home for a doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, April 15 with games at 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M. Join Ryan Nelke and Tyler Seabrease on the call for WSOU Streams.
