MILWAUKEE, W.I. - After an underwhelming season, The Seton Hall Pirates (3-10-5) finished the year with a 3-1 loss against the Marquette Golden Eagles (7-7-4) in their season finale on Saturday.

From the beginning of the match, Marquette came out with fire and controlled the offense for the entire first half. In just the first 20 minutes of play, the Golden Eagles got off eight shots and three corner kicks, with the Pirates still even one. Of those eight shots, six were from different players, with the other two being from senior midfielder Cate Downs.

However, Seton Hall’s defense still looked strong to this point and were able to hold Marquette down, as goalkeeper Avery Strohecker saved two of the eight shots on target.

After this, both defenses started to heat up, as well as tensions. Seton Hall picked up five fouls in just over ten minutes, and substitutions were made left and right.

Finally, with just under two and a half minutes to go in the first half, the Golden Eagles scored on a goal from sophomore forward Jocelyn Leigh, with assists coming from Coco Dorfman and Josie Bieda.

In the second half, play was somewhat slow, and again consisted of defense, fouls, and substitutions on both ends of the field, with very minimal shots taken. Eventually, at the 70-minute mark, Marquette struck again, making it a 2-0 lead, with a goal this time from sophomore Megan Murray.

This aggressive play only intensified when a yellow card was thrown on Marquette freshman Clare Shea.
Two minutes later, Seton Hall finally picked up their first goal of the night, with sophomore Olivia Beauvois racking in her first of the season. From this, it looked like the Pirates could force a late comeback, with just under ten minutes left to go.

This momentum started to slow down at the 84-minute mark when Seton Hall picked up a yellow card, this time on freshman Shea Boyle.

Soon after, Marquette would fully close the window for a comeback, with a late goal coming in from senior Aislinn Boyle with an assist from Megan Murray, to make it a two-goal lead once again with a final score of 3-1.

The Pirates came into the match with nothing to lose and looked to close out a rough season with a win. While stats might not show it, their performance on defense was solid amongst the three goals. Most of the night, Seton Hall simply could not advance the ball forward and offensively, looked to be sloppy and unorganized.

With this, the Seton Hall Pirates concluded their season with just three wins and went on a seven-game losing streak to close it out.

Throughout the many ups and downs, the Pirates still have a bright future to look ahead at, led by Gianna Angelillo, Adria Kitzinger, and Nina Davis, just to name a few of the stars who will be looked at as the leaders of this team in the foreseeable future.
