MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - Graduate student Perri Lucas was on the attack today with seven kills on 27 total attacks, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team (11-16, 5-11) fell in three sets at Marquette (20-7, 14-2) on Sunday. The Pirates were coming off a tough loss in Omaha to the No. 5 Creighton Bluejays on Friday, November 15th, where their three-game win streak was snapped. Additionally, Marquette have not lost a conference game to any other team besides the Bluejays, holding a 14-2 conference record.

The Pirates scored the first point of the match, but could not find another lead until the third set. Seton Hall was able to keep fighting back and not let the lead escape them in the first frame, and got a break when Marquette’s service error cut their deficit to 20-16. However, even after a pair of late kills by Perri Lucas, the Pirates still fell 25-18 in the set.

In the second set, Marquette scored the first three of four points to build off their first set momentum. The Pirates were able to cut their deficit as close as 11-7 after being able to force two attack errors. However, after those errors, Marquette went on a 10-2 run to lead by a commanding 21-9, taking their biggest lead. The Pirates ended the set hitting .000, while Marquette had a match-high .406, and took the set 25-14.

But the third set ended up being the closest by far, and was a promising one for the Pirates; there was a total of eight ties and four lead changes. The Pirates were not going down without a fight,  and were able to snag a 16-13 lead in the set that forced a timeout for the Golden Eagles. Subsequently, following the timeout, Marquette regrouped to go on a 10-2 run, retaking the lead with a 23-18 advantage. Marquette eventually closed out the match with a 25-19 set-three victory.

Alongside Lucas, Maddy Loiselle and Maddie Klungel, the reigning BIG EAST Setter of the Week, also had impressive performances. Loiselle knocked down seven kills and put up two blocks. Klungel was just one dig away from a double-double, alongside 17 assists, four kills, and a block.

Up next, the Pirates will remain on the road and travel to Washington D.C to take on the 10-18 Georgetown Hoyas on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Hall will look to get back into the win column before coming back to Walsh from their three-game road trip, when they close the season out with Senior Night on Saturday, November 23rd, against Butler.
