From the hardwood courts of Minnesota to the collegiate stage, freshman guard Zahara Bishop is already bringing a winning mindset to Seton Hall. As an incoming freshman from Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School, Minnesota, Bishop arrives with an impressive résumé.

During her time with the Red Knights, Bishop played a crucial role in guiding her team to back-to-back-to-back state championships, cementing their dominance in Minnesota’s 3A division. Her consistency and competitive drive earned her First Team All-Conference honors twice.

As a senior in high school, Bishop averaged 18.9 points per game while leading her team to complete a three-peat of championship seasons. In the Minnesota 3A state tournament, Bishop averaged 20 points per game. Her standout performance earned her a spot on the 3A All-Tournament Team, highlighting her ability to shine on the biggest stages.

Now, as she transitions to the collegiate level, Bishop is eager to make her mark once again. Standing at 6 feet tall, Bishop is the second tallest guard on the team behind senior transfer from Texas Jordana Codio.

Head coach Tony Bozzella wants to shut down opponents’ three point shooting this year, and Codio and Bishop are most likely going to be instrumental pieces towards that goal.

Going into the season it is unclear how much playing time Bishop will get or what role Coach Bozzella will have her fill. She is more than capable of helping in the paint on offense or defense or contributing on the arc. Bishop’s versatility almost guarantees that she will see plenty of minutes in her freshman season.

Former teammate at Benilde-St. Margret’s Kendall McGee joins Bishop in the Big East, though on a different team. McGee found a home in Omaha with the Creighton Blue Jays. While McGee and Bishop were a dominant dynamic duo in high school, they will now face off twice in the regular season as rivals in the Big East.
