The Thomaston, Connecticut, product Sydnee Eggleton is entering her sophomore season at Seton Hall University. Yes, it is the forward’s second season, but it will feature her first games as a Seton Hall Pirate. It is comeback season for Eggleton, as she missed last season with an injury. After much rehab and resilience, she looks to come out hot in her Pirates debut.
While not participating in college basketball yet, Eggleton was a captain at Thomaston High School in Connecticut and Peddie High School in Hightstown, New Jersey. Additionally, she was named to both the 2021-22 MAPL All-League team and the 2021 CHSCA All-State team. One of the performances that gave her a name in high school was when she scored 35 points and 17 rebounds in an overtime victory vs. Mercersburg Academy during the 2021-22 season.
When Eggleton officially signed with the Seton Hall Pirates back in November of 2022, head coach Tony Bozzella was excited to have the Connecticut standout. He spoke on how she is a physical player not afraid of contact on the court, and high praise from Bozzella is always a good sign for players.
Physicality and grit are aspects that these Seton Hall Pirates need in their game heading into the 2024-25 season. Losing key players such as Azana Baines and Kae Satterfield, the team loses not just veteran leadership, but the ability to drive the ball as well. Sydnee Eggleton can play hard but also provide leadership for new players, as she was a captain in high school. Injuries can be hard to come back from, so health will be a huge factor heading into Eggleton’s season.
There is some history coming with Sydnee Eggleton’s debut. She is only the third woman to come out of the Thomaston basketball program and reach the Division I level of women’s basketball. With no signs of distress, she looks to be on pace to be a critical piece on this team for the Pirates.
