Head coach of the Seton Hall women’s basketball team, Tony Bozzella, added loads of depth to his squad this offseason, especially with the addition of sophomore transfer Savanna Jones. Jones stands at 6-foot-1, doubles as both a forward and center, and was a solid basket-scorer for North Dakota State College of Science, which is where she transferred from.

Jones had impressive numbers at her previous school; she made the First Team All-Conference team and played in all 35 games of the season. She averaged 13.3 points and seven rebounds per game, proving that she could be both a threat scoring and on defense. Jones used her size to her advantage, which will definitely become a factor when she and the team face off against the tough Big East opponents and its notable Bigs.

While Jones’ first season was impressive, it is important to note her achievements on the high school level as well. She attended Eden Prairie High School, where she helped the team go 78-34 and win two sectional titles. Additionally, she was a team captain, which, even in her first year in South Orange, is a quality she will bring to her Pirates team.

Yet basketball is not just a sport for Jones, it’s also a family affair. Jones has two brothers, Tre and Tyrus, who are currently in the NBA. Not only do her brothers play for NBA teams, but they were also standouts for Duke basketball, which is certainly impressive given the history that’s present in that program.

Jones is certainly going to be a player to watch this season for the Pirates. With her impressive stats as well as her size, she adds depth to an already solid team. She contributes to the presence in the paint on both offense and defense, and it will be interesting to see how she fits into Seton Hall’s array of plays. Look out for Jones’ debut in the blue and white when the season tips off on November 2nd against Jefferson.
