Pirate Preview: Roddie Anderson III

In the modern day of college basketball, developing players and seeing them rise to their potential is awfully hard with the astronomically high rate of turnover there is year-by-year. It also makes it harder to gauge what a program and its individual players will look like come time for the first tipoff and conference play, as there is little consistently. 

 

That is no different than this year with the Seton Hall Pirates, as only one player from last year’s roster returns, and this article previews one of the many new faces, guard Roddie Anderson III. 
 

Seton Hall is Anderson’s fourth stop in five years, as he makes his way over from Big East rival Xavier, with previous one-year stints with Boise State and UC San Diego. 

 

The graduate, 6’3 guard, tells an interesting story through the numbers over the course of his career. In his first two stops, at UCSD and Boise State, he started just over 85% of those games, and in his freshman campaign, he was a 13.1 point per game player.   

 

However, this dropped significantly at Boise State, falling to 6.5 points per game. The California native would spend his junior year redshirting with the Musketeers following his transfer out of Boise State. 

 

Last year at Xavier, even though Anderson slid into a bench role, he brought his average back up to double digits at 10.9 points per game, despite playing the fewest minutes per game across his three stops (23.8 minutes). 
 

In his two contests against The Hall last season, Anderson shot a collective 5 of 16, while producing six and seven points in his two appearances off the bench, respectively. 

 

Anderson will hope to bring that level of production to the Pirates, as he joins a backcourt rotation likely to consist of incumbent Trey Parker, and fellow transfers Del Jones, Simeon Wilcher, and Darrien Moore. 
 

It remains to be seen how Coach Shaheen Holloway will deploy his guards, so Pirates faithful will have to remain patient until the new season tips off on November 2nd when Seton Hall hosts Saint Peter’s to tip-off the program’s 119th season.
