When thinking of the greatest basketball players to come out of Seton Hall University, names like Richie Regan, Shaheen Holloway, Adrian Griffin, Samuel Dalembert, and Jerry Walker immediately come to mind. Richie Regan, for whom the recreation center is named, holds a special place in Seton Hall's history. These athletes not only excelled on the court but embodied the qualities that define a true Seton Hall player.
One key attribute they all share is what we now refer to as having that "DAWG." This term represents mental toughness, resilience, and the ability to perform under pressure—an essential mindset for any athlete aiming to succeed at the collegiate level, particularly in high-stakes moments. Among the emerging talents this season is Prince Aligbe, a 6'7" transfer from Boston College, eager to make his mark.
Aligbe is poised to take on a significant role this season, especially after the departures of key players like Kadary Richmond, Jaquan Sanders, Dre Davis, and Sadraque Nganga via the transfer portal this past summer. Aligbe arrives at Seton Hall determined to prove the team can thrive with him on board.
In high school, Aligbe was exceptional, averaging 28 points and 12 rebounds per game in his senior year. His stellar performance earned him finalist spots for both Mr. Basketball and the 2022 Pioneer Press Metro Boys Basketball Player of the Year in Minnesota. Notably, he played alongside current NBA stars Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder and Jalen Suggs of the Orlando Magic.
During his two years at Boston College, Aligbe showcased his potential, proving why any team would be fortunate to have him. He accumulated 330 points and 237 rebounds, with 137 of those on the defensive end, along with a 62.5% free-throw percentage and 40.1% field-goal percentage. A standout moment came in his debut game, where he scored 16 points and hit the game-winning shot, becoming the first freshman in 11 years to lead the team in scoring in his college debut.
These achievements highlight Aligbe's readiness to thrive under Hall of Fame Coach Shaheen Holloway, who is known for developing players who excel under pressure. Aligbe’s defensive prowess perfectly fits the Pirates’ mentality, emphasizing perseverance and grit on both ends of the floor.
As the 2024–2025 season approaches, Aligbe is set to make a major impact, and fans should keep a close eye on him at Prudential Center. His combination of skill, determination, and unmistakable DAWG mentality makes him a key player to watch. With Aligbe on the roster, the Pirates are well-equipped to take on any challenge, and his presence could be a game-changer for the team's success.
