Pirate Preview: Kareem Thomas

In the modern-day college basketball and overall college athletics landscape, it's not often you find rosters that carry over year-to-year. For the 2026-2027 Seton Hall Pirates, they find themselves in the middle of that experience.
As Shaheen Holloway enters his fifth season at the helm in South Orange, just two players are set to return from last year’s squad with guards Trey Parker and Elijah Fisher set to dawn pirate blue once again.
Among the many new faces on the Pirates roster for this season, guard Kareem Thomas gets set for his first year in South Orange. Holloway brought in Thomas through the transfer portal in the offseason after spending the first two years of his collegiate career at Dartmouth.
The Ivy League product came off the bench in his freshman season with Big Green appearing in just 14 of a possible 28 games while averaging 4.3 minutes a night. Fast forward to his sophomore season, Thomas put himself on the radar for a team like Seton Hall.
The Wilmington, Delaware native started all 26 games while averaging 29.2 minutes a night. He led Dartmouth in points per game with 15.9 which also ranked inside the top ten at ninth in the Ivy League.
On his way to a team leading 414 points on the season and 15.9 a night, Thomas tallied 21 games with at least ten points and nine games with a least 20 points. Simply put, Thomas was a consistent offensive presence night in and night out for Darthmouth.
One of the biggest issues with the Pirates a year ago was three-point shooting. Holloway’s squad finished last in the Big East in three-point percentage, shooting at just a 30.5% clip.
This offseason for Holloway has featured a clear focus on adding players that can shoot the three ball. Thomas fits that category coming off a year where he led all Dartmouth guards in three-point shooting percentage at 44.7%.
When looking at the roster that Coach Holloway and company put together this offseason, there is a plethora of guards which includes Thomas.
Trey Parker, Elijah Fisher, Simeon Wilcher, Roddie Anderson III, Del Jones, among others are expected to be key pieces for the Pirates this season.
Thomas’ ability to score last season on top of his efficient shooting from downtown should put himself in a position to play a key role in Seton Hall’s guard rotation.
The Pirates are set to open the season on Monday, November 2nd when they welcome Saint Peter’s to the Prudential Center. All the action throughout the season can be heard on 89.5 FM WSOU.
