This past basketball season, the Seton Hall Pirates finished with a rough 7-24 record, including only two BIG EAST Conference wins. After finishing last in conference play, it was no secret that Seton Hall Had to make a lot of noise in the transfer portal this offseason, especially after losing a good number of last year's team to the transfer portal.
A men's basketball team that was in desperate need of veteran leadership went into the transfer portal this offseason and picked up senior forward Josh Rivera. Rivera, the Fordham transfer, is a New Jersey native by way of New Brunswick, coming in at 6’6, 225 pounds.
During his junior year at Fordham, Rivera appeared in 32 games and started three while averaging 10.7 ppg which was the third highest on the team, and 4.3 rebounds per game. His best outing last year featured him posting 19 points and seven rebounds in Fordham's win vs. Rhode Island in February.
Rivera is hoping to help improve the Pirates defense after he is coming off a career defensive year with a total of 11 blocks and 21 steals. His best defensive game of the season came against Albany where he recorded two blocks and two steals, while scoring 13 points and picking up three rebounds while earning the win.
The forward helped Fordham pull off a thriller win against Bryant when he hit a game-winning three point shot with six seconds left on the clock to secure a Rams win and finished with 17 points, one assist, and five rebounds. Later on in the season, Rivera chalked up his first double-double of his junior campaign against La Salle with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
With Rivera's senior season on the horizon, the forward will be looking to make an immediate impact for Seton Hall offensively and defensively as he and the Pirates will be looking for redemption in the 2025 season. Rivera and the Pirates will begin regular season play vs Saint Peter’s in a Jersey showdown at home on November 3rd.
