After a successful season last year, the Seton Hall Pirates have seen significant roster turnover in the offseason. Eight new faces have joined the team, including 6-foot-5 freshman Jahseem Felton. He is one of three freshmen on the roster for the 2024-25 season, alongside Godswill Erheriene and Assane Mbaye.
Felton, also nicknamed "Jahboogie," is a three-star recruit from Combine Academy in Rock Hill, S.C. Felton is listed as a shooting guard but can play both guard positions, making him a valuable asset to this young Pirates team.
In his senior year at Combine Academy, the team was ranked as the 17th-best high school team in the country. Felton played a significant role in the ranking, as he averaged 17.5 points per game on the Under Armour circuit. Felton even improved to 20.5 points per game in the Peach Invitational Tournament.
It is unlikely that Felton will capture a starting spot this season, with the likes of Dylan Addae-Wusu, Chaunce Jenkins, and Zion Harmon ahead of him in the pecking order. However, this doesn't mean he won't see playing time. With so many new faces, there will be plenty of opportunities off the bench throughout the season.
The key to success for Jahboogie this season is hard work. Coach Shaheen Holloway has emphasized the importance of effort, regardless of whether a player is a senior or a freshman. This focus on hard work is a big reason why Jahseem chose Seton Hall, as he believes in himself and knows he can make an impact right away through dedication.
Coach Holloway has a major rebuild on his hands, and a versatile freshman like Felton has the ability to step in at either the shooting guard or point guard position if needed. While Holloway hasn’t guaranteed the young freshman anything, he clearly sees potential in Felton.
With a lot of question marks surrounding this Pirates team going into the season, opportunities will come for Jahseem Felton. With hard work, it could be the first year in a long legacy here at the Hall.
