Pirate Preview: Jahseem Felton

With all the struggles the Pirates faced last year, they certainly still had a few bright spots. One of those being Jahseem Felton, the now sophomore who likely is going to have a bigger role on this year’s squad.

Felton, a 6’5 guard from North Carolina, played in 26 games as a freshman last year. Eight of those games featured him in the starting lineup. While he did not play every game last year, it is expected that Felton will play a bigger role as the season goes on for the Pirates.

One performance to note from last season came against BIG EAST opponent DePaul, where Felton had seven points, and was a perfect 3-3 from the field. With this game, Pirate nation saw the potential that he could have down the line.

Felton has proven that he is a solid shooter, who could be looked to in a clutch situation. While the new-look team this year has shown potential depth, Felton likely will be an important and consistent piece to rely on throughout the year.

An interesting fact to note about Felton: he was one of the top baseball players in North Carolina in middle school and early on in high school. With him playing multiple sports, Felton’s impressive athleticism is shown.

Even though Felton only averaged 3.5 points per game in his debut season, his ceiling is certainly still high. However, it will be important to look out for how he performs in conference play, as the BIG EAST proves to be quite unforgiving seemingly every year.

The notion of toughness that comes with the conference always plays a pivotal part of player performances. Felton will have to be physical, aggressive, and of course tough, if he wants to succeed in conference play and beyond.

The overall outlook of Felton is positive, with the hope that he can be a star for this Seton Hall team. He will certainly be a player to look out for at the beginning of the season.

Catch Felton along with the rest of the basketball team, when the season opens up on November 3rd against Saint Peter’s.
