The Seton Hall Pirates have high hopes for one of their few returning players, Godswill Erheriene. In a difficult season for the Pirates last year, Erheriene was a bright spot for Coach Holloway’s squad, giving Pirate Nation some excitement and hope for the future of The Hall’s frontcourt.

Coach Holloway had some tough competition when looking to acquire Erheriene’s talents. Seton Hall was the last school to offer Erheriene a scholarship, competing with St. Bonaventure, Georgia Tech, St. John’s, Maryland, USC, and Texas Tech. Eventually, the 6-foot-9 big man would choose The Hall.

The sophomore made an instant impact last season as a freshman, appearing in all 32 games and starting 23. Erheriene struggled to make an impact on the scoreboard at times, as he did not register a basket in ten of his 32 appearances. Overall, his raw shooting numbers were mixed, as he finished the season with a shooting percentage over 50 percent, but converted just 31 percent of his shots from the charity stripe.

Erheriene made major strides with his physicality as the year went on, though. After having trouble with his faceup game and fighting off defenders, he cleaned the glass and converted second chance opportunities with ease by year's end. Erheriene’s post offense took some time to get going, but he became a force when his team needed him.

Defensively, Erheriene needed some time to adjust to the pace of college hoops, experiencing difficulties with locating and boxing out his opponents, but adjusted quickly. With a new training staff, he should be able to build on his rebounding prowess and own the paint this season.

Erheriene’s best performance came in The Hall’s most exciting matchup of the year, against UConn at the Prudential Center. The freshman stepped up big time, showing glimpses as a force in the paint and propelling the Pirates to an improbable victory in an overtime thriller. Erheriene recorded his first career double-double, racking up 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Going into his sophomore season, players will likely look to Erheriene's way for leadership and guidance, after he was able to step in and become a regular starter for the team. Additionally, if Erheriene continues to develop as quickly as he did last season, he could easily be the leader of the Pirates frontcourt.
