Arguably the top returning prospect from last year’s NBA Draft pool, Garwey Dual is poised to maximize his sophomore season at Seton Hall, with a focus on the 2025 NBA Draft.
Standing at 6-foot-5, Garwey Dual is a versatile combo guard who arrives in South Orange after one season with fellow Big East member Providence College. At Providence, Dual was primarily used off the bench, averaging 18 minutes per game and contributing 3.3 points and 1.9 assists. He shot 33 percent from the field and 25 percent from three-point range—numbers he'll aim to improve as a sophomore. While his freshman stats may not stand out, the eye test reveals Dual has all the tools to become one of the Big East's premier guards early in his career.
Following Providence’s first-round exit in the NIT to Boston College, Garwey Dual entered the transfer portal seeking a fresh start. Despite committing late in the transfer window, he ultimately chose Shaheen Holloway’s Seton Hall Pirates over other high-major programs, like Georgia and Texas A&M.
As Pirates fans eagerly anticipate what Garwey Dual can bring to the team this season, a look at his past highlights why Coach Shaheen Holloway might be the perfect coach to unlock Dual’s untapped potential. Coming out of Southern California Academy, Dual was a four-star, top-50 recruit in the class of 2023. His combination of size, length, perimeter defense, playmaking, and explosive athleticism made him a highly sought-after prospect for many high-major programs. Initially viewed as a potential one-and-done candidate, Dual’s freshman year reflects the challenges today’s collegiate landscape poses for younger, less experienced players. Now, with a year of Big East competition under his belt, Dual understands what it takes to thrive in one of the nation's most competitive conferences.
Looking ahead to Garwey Dual’s role this season under Shaheen Holloway, it’s important to consider two key aspects of Holloway’s coaching philosophy. First, Holloway has often emphasized his preference for multiple ball handlers on the floor, rather than relying on a single lead guard, as was the case with Kadary Richmond last season. Second, Holloway’s teams are known for their defensive intensity, with every player expected to give maximum effort on that end of the floor. Dual fits both criteria perfectly, positioning him to make a significant impact for Seton Hall this season.
Garwey Dual is poised to make an immediate impact for the Pirates and could quickly become a fan favorite. If everything falls into place, don’t be surprised to hear his name called at the 2025 NBA Draft in June.
