It is hard to miss David Tubek, the 6’7” 3-star recruit from South Sudan, who now enters his 2nd year with the Seton Hall Pirates. As the team prepares to defend their NIT championship this season, this athlete prepares for a breakout year.
Before arriving in South Orange, he played at Dream City Christian in Arizona under Kyle Weaver. During his time there, he made a name for himself, averaging 16.8 points and 9.8 rebounds. Many of his points came from his ability to shoot from range, where he posted a 43.5% shooting percentage.
Coming from South Sudan, Tubek was seeking a change of scenery and an opportunity to further develop his talent. He believed South Orange was the right place for that growth. One of his main reasons for choosing Seton Hall was the chance to play under Coach Holloway, whom he saw as his best opportunity to build a career.
In his first season under Coach Holloway, Tubek appeared in 16 games, scoring a total of 13 points, which averages to 0.8 points per game. Playing just over 5 minutes per game, he scored his first collegiate points against Baylor, going 3-for-4 from the free throw line. He made his only start of the season at St. John’s on February 18th, where he also scored his first career field goal, a three-pointer, against the Red Storm. By the end of the season, Tubek had attempted 14 shots, making 3, with 2 of them from beyond the arc.
Tubek, one of four returning players from last season's roster, is one of the few with experience in Coach Holloway's system and should have a good grasp of the playstyle. With the Pirates losing key players like Kadary Richmond, Dre Davis, and Al-Amir Dawes, they are searching for another shooter to complement Dylan Addae-Wusu. Tubek’s skill set could make him a valuable asset in that role.
The Seton Hall Pirates will continue to develop the 6’7” athlete into a future star as we head into the 2024-25 season.
