Year two of the Shaheen Holloway Era is underway in South Orange. The Seton Hall Pirates finished with a record of 17-16 and 10-10 in conference play last year with an appearance in the NIT.
This year’s squad has a lot of new faces who are looking to make an impact. However, one of the returning faces who has arguably the most important role is the 6’6 senior from Brooklyn, New York, Kadary Richmond.
Richmond is a Syracuse transfer and is entering his third season with The Hall. Richmond is a projected NBA Draft prospect and needs to have a breakout year to not only help the Pirates get back to March but to also improve his draft stock for this upcoming year.
Richmond in his three years of playing college basketball has shown improvement year after year. Freshman year, Richmond averaged 6.3 points at Syracuse, averaged 8.8 points in his first year at The Hall, and averaged 10.1 last year with the Pirates. In his senior year, his role is expected to be bigger and so is his play.

Before last season, Richmond was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Second Team and was the lead point guard for the Pirates. Richmond averaged 10.1 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, 4.1 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game. The guard play of Richmond took a massive leap with more minutes and Richmond was doing it on both sides of the ball, being one of the Pirates’ most lethal defenders. Most notably, Richmond had six steals in Seton Hall’s win over Rutgers before conference play started up.
The ability to rebound is a sneaky good part of Richmond’s game that doesn’t get talked about a lot. Richmond led the team in rebounding during conference play and was a nightmare to deal with if you were an opposing big man trying to get a rebound.
Kadary Richmond has shown flashes of taking over a game. Last year, Richmond went off for 28 points against Providence and the year prior, Kadary scored 27 points over UConn. Richmond has the potential to be an All-BIG EAST First Team player who can average upwards of 16 points per game with multiple 20-point performances.
Season-high 17 points for Kooks. Still battling here at the U4.#HALLin 🔵⚪️ pic.twitter.com/mA4ctbP7od

To put it simply, the Pirates go as Richmond goes. In years past, Seton Hall has been successful when they have a player with the ability to take over a game such as Myles Powell, Jared Rhoden, and Sandro Mamukelashvili, just to name a few.
If the Pirates want to make a name for themselves in arguably the best conference in the country, Kadary Richmond is going to have to lead the team through the stacked BIG EAST conference.
