STONY BROOK, N.Y. – In a hard-fought match, the No. 11 Seton Hall Pirates (8-2-1) fell to the Stony Brook Seawolves (3-5-3) on Tuesday evening by a final score of 2-1. With less than a minute remaining, Stony Brooks Caleb Danquah’s goal handed the Pirates their second loss of the season.
In the first half, Jared Smith continued his hot streak, scoring his fourth goal of the season to put Seton Hall up 1-0. The goal came 26 minutes into the game, with assists from Hugo Gerbore and Til Kauschke. Both Seton Hall and Stony Brook were effective in the first half, totaling seven shots between them, but despite the Pirates' lead, Stony Brook had the edge heading into halftime.
In the second half, both teams remained aggressive, tallying nine shots each. Pirates goalkeeper Matias Molina kept Seton Hall in the lead by denying multiple scoring chances. After several near misses, Stony Brook’s Trevor Harrison tied the game at 1-1 with an impressive shot from outside the box.
Jared Smith attempted to regain the lead for Seton Hall eight minutes later but was denied by a crucial Seawolves save. This halted the Pirates' momentum. At the 79-minute mark, a shot from Thomas Sellwood was blocked, and another by Rikard Cederberg was saved. These were the last significant attempts for Seton Hall until the final 30 seconds.
Ultimately, a goal in the 88th minute handed the Pirates their second loss of the season. Stony Brook’s Caleb Danquah sealed the win for the Seawolves with a game-winning goal off an assist, sending a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. The Pirates fought hard and stayed aggressive, but the Seawolves prevailed, 2-1.
Seton Hall (8-2-1) will look to bounce back against the Butler Bulldogs (3-6-3) this Saturday at Owen T. Carroll Field. The Pirates are undefeated at home this season, with a record of 6-0. Miguel Freire and Brian Henderson will be on the call for WSOU. Coverage of the BIG EAST match will begin at 2 p.m. on WSOU.net.
