MILWAUKEE — The Seton Hall Pirates (7-19, 2-13) were blown out 80-56 by the No. 16 Marquette Golden Eagles (20-6, 11-4) on Tuesday night. Marquette dominated from the start, picking up its 11th BIG EAST victory of the season.

Both sides exchanged buckets early until Marquette took control of the game. Shortly after the first media timeout, a combination of 3-pointers, rebounds and finishes at the rim helped Marquette build a commanding lead.

The lead grew as large as 20, with the hosts ending the first half ahead 40-23. They made more than half of their shots while also finishing with an 11-rebound advantage and 18 points in the paint.

At the start of the second half, it looked like more of the same from Marquette, as it held Seton Hall scoreless for three and a half minutes before the Pirates scored their first points.

They frustrated the Pirates on all ends, with the New Jersey team rarely cutting into its halftime deficit. The lead grew to as much as 31 points, as they showed no mercy to the visitors.

Marquette won 80-56, led by 14 points from lead guard Kam Jones. He was one of three players in double figures, alongside Chase Ross and Ben Gold. The entire Marquette team contributed, with 11 of 15 players scoring.

As for Seton Hall, Isaiah Coleman led the team with 13 points, while Scotty Middleton added nine on a rough shooting night. The Pirates shot 36.8% from the field and were outrebounded by 16. They led for just 58 seconds, highlighting Marquette’s dominance throughout the game.

Focusing on the positives, nine players scored, and everyone saw playing time. The team committed just 10 turnovers, a vast improvement from the 24 in its first matchup with Marquette on Jan. 21.

Marquette improves to 11-4 in BIG EAST play as it turns its focus to Friday’s game at Villanova. The Wisconsin team is now tied with Creighton for second place. Seton Hall falls to 2-13 in conference play with a visit from Xavier looming Sunday.

Both teams have five games remaining in the Big East season before the Big East Tournament begins Wednesday, March 12. Seton Hall will look to use this final stretch to build confidence and momentum for what could be its last chance to salvage a lost season.

Seton Hall and Xavier are set to tip off Sunday at 2 p.m. WSOU’s coverage begins at 1:30 p.m. with analysis from Brian Henderson and Bobby Steiner. Victor Gonzalez and Patrick Corsello will have the call from Prudential Center.
