NEWARK, N.J - The St. Louis Blues shut out the New Jersey Devils 3-0 on Wednesday night at The Rock. A milestone game for Jacob Markstrom last night did not go as planned, as the 34-year-old played in his 500th game in the NHL amidst the loss.

It was a less-than-ideal start for the Devils; almost immediately into the game, Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich sent a pass over to Robert Thomas for a goal, giving St. Louis a 1-0 lead just nine seconds into the game.

The Devils continued to struggle early, as Tomas Tatar was sent to the box as a result of an NJD bench minor for too many men. “Kill” chants rang from the crowd as New Jersey tried to keep this a 1-0 game. The Devils technically were able to kill the penalty, but just three seconds after, Dylan Holloway sent one past Markstrom to give the Blues a 2-0 lead in period one.

The problems continued for the Devils as they were unable to tally a shot through the first 10 minutes of the game. With less than five minutes remaining, the Blues were able to pot another, as once again Holloway beat Markstrom for his second goal of the game. The Blues took a penalty late, but the Devils were unable to connect. A period to forget for the Devils, as they headed into period two down 3-0.

The Devils had a great opportunity to quickly get one back, as they started the second period with a full two-minute powerplay. Unfortunately, they were unable to connect, and St. Louis maintained their 3-0 lead. Despite a few chances, the Devils could not find a way to get one in the back of the net, as Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington stood tall.

Neither team was able to break through in period two, and the game still remained 3-0 in favor of the Blues.
The Devils had 20 more minutes to make the ultimate come back down by three.

A chance came immediately for the Devils, as they started the period with a power play when Blues forward Jordan Kyrou went to the box for tripping. But again, the Devils were unable to capitalize within their advantage, and were now running out of time to tie the game.

Yet 3-0 would go on to be it for the night, as while the Devils didn’t allow additional goals, they failed to score in the third.

The Devils were off for Thanksgiving but will return on Black Friday as they take on the Detroit Red Wings on the road.
