New Jersey Punches Their Ticket To Williamsport

BRISTOL, CO -- Bayonne, New Jersey makes its first ever appearance and representation in the Little League World Series as the state’s first representation since 2021, a feat done by Toms River East. Bayonne faced its biggest challenge yet in yesterday's matchup against Darien, Connecticut coming out on top in a gritty 8-6 victory in Bristol.

 

Bayonne had a rocky first inning, going down 4 runs to start off in a deep hole at the top of it, however they had rallied 3 separate times, with the most impactful one being in the 5th inning with 4 runs being scored to tie it up 6-6 after Darien put 2 more runs up. After tying the game up, they scored 2 more runs to not only win the game but add some distance to their lead. The young team looked like pros on the field, especially in a spotlight matchup such as this.

 

The star player for Bayonne in this matchup was Owen Feliz who went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 5 RBIs. What allowed Feliz to shine so much was Mason Rincon who was intentionally walked every at bat. This allowed Feliz to punish this decision in back-to-back at bats. However, Rincon would get a chance to shine on the mound he came into to relieve and pitched 4 scoreless innings while striking out 8 batters, giving his guys the chance to mount this comeback.

 

Along with an appearance in the Little League World Series, Bayonne took home the Metro Region title as well. The gritty team from the small often forgotten town has made a true name for themselves in this year and for years to come. Bayonne, as well as the players themselves, now has a massive spotlight on themselves as they travel to Williamsport for the Little League World Series. They play their next opponent on the opening day of the LLWS August 19th at 7:00 PM against the New England Region champions. The New England team from Bridgewater Massachusetts took down the team from Maine in 8-0 fashion. Bayonne's matchup with Bridgewater is sure to be electric for both sides as they both get their first ever taste of the Little League World Series.
