SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. — The Seton Hall Pirates (10-16) rebounded in impressive fashion on Saturday, securing a hard-fought 6-4 victory over the Marist Red Foxes (11-13) after being shut out on Friday evening. The game remained competitive for much of the contest, but the Pirates capitalized on critical mistakes by Marist to emerge victorious.
It began in the first inning when Marist pitcher Tyler Hartley struggled to locate the strike zone. Hartley loaded the bases, allowing AJ Soldra to score on a walk, giving the Pirates an early offensive spark. Later in the inning, Magnus Kreiger reached base on a fielder’s choice, bringing home Jimmy Brennan to extend Seton Hall’s lead to 2-0.
The Pirates later attempted a double steal, with Aiden Robbins successfully stealing home to extend the Pirates’ lead to 3-0. Cole Hanssen delivered the longest outing of his career, pitching 7.1 innings while allowing four earned runs, issuing three walks, and striking out seven batters.
Hansen encountered some trouble when he surrendered a hit to Jason Claiborn, allowing Marist to score a run. Kyle Pollock followed with a single, driving in Claiborn to add another run.
The Pirates responded in the bottom of the fourth inning when Kevin Milewski launched a home run to deep left-center, reclaiming the lead for Seton Hall. However, Marist quickly countered as Chris Diaz delivered a single to right field, driving in Lewis Rodriguez to even the score.
This would be the last run Hansen allowed for the day as he dominated the remainder of the game. Andrew Bianco and Aiden Robbins provided the Pirates with two crucial insurance runs to secure the victory.
Daniel Frontera entered the game in relief of Cole Hanssen and successfully closed out the contest, earning a save in the process. Seton Hall ended Marist’s two-game shutout streak with the 6-4 victory, breaking the all-time series tie as the Pirates now lead 4-3.
The two teams will meet again to close out the series on Sunday at 12 p.m. Thomas Kvalø and Liam Page will have the call on WSOU.net.
