STORRS, Conn. – The Seton Hall Pirates (14–25) came up short in their weekend trip to UConn (21–17), dropping all three games in what was expected to be a competitive BIG EAST series.

In Game 1, the Pirates got off to a fast start with two runs in the first inning. Aiden Robbins scored on an RBI double from catcher Kevin Milewski, and AJ Soldra came home on a bases-loaded walk by Magnus Krieger.

The Huskies responded in the fourth when sophomore Tyler Minick homered to right-center, tying the game at 2-2. In the fifth, Grant MacArthur followed with a solo shot to give UConn the lead.

Seton Hall responded in the sixth when Robbins tripled and later scored on a passed ball to even the score at 3-3. However, Minick struck again in the bottom of the sixth with his second home run of the game, giving UConn a 5-3 lead it would not relinquish.

Game 2 was highlighted by Milewski, who recorded his 10th and 11th home runs of the season, becoming just the third Pirate since 2000 to reach double digits in a season. Seton Hall again started strong, taking a 2-0 lead after Robbins scored on an Soldra double, followed by Milewski’s solo shot on a 2-2 count.

UConn chipped away with an RBI single from Caleb Sphur in the second and a solo homer from Connor Lane in the fourth. The Pirates held a 4-2 lead heading into the ninth, but RBIs from Aidan Dougherty and Bryan Padilla forced extra innings. In the 10th, Lane scored the game-winner on a single to center by the Huskies’ shortstop.

In the series finale, Seton Hall again jumped ahead with an RBI from Jimmy Brennan in the top of the first. UConn quickly responded with an RBI single from Minick, then took a 3-1 lead on a two-run homer by Ryan Daniels. Padilla followed with a solo homer to stretch the lead to 5-1.

The Pirates cut into the deficit in the fourth after Marco Ali scored on a bases-loaded walk. Soldra later hit a solo home run in the eighth to make it 5-3, but Lane’s three-run homer in the bottom of the inning put the game out of reach. Seton Hall’s ninth-inning rally, which included a solo home run from Nick Ferri and an RBI double from Soldra, fell short as UConn closed out an 8-6 win and a series sweep.

Despite the results, the Pirates saw strong performances from Milewski, Soldra, and Robbins. They’ll look to bounce back Tuesday at Rider.
