Pirates Take Two From Stony Brook in Weekend Series

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Seton Hall Pirates (7-11) traveled to Long Island and took two of three games from the Stony Brook Seawolves (8-9) in a weekend series. The Pirates entered the series with a 2-7 road record this season.
Seton Hall ultimately took the series, two games to one. Fight-hander Ryan Reich got the start on the mound on Friday afternoon. Marco Ali sparked the scoring with a run in the third inning when he was driven in by Jimmy Brennan on a single.
Stony Brook tied the game in the fourth inning when left fielder Matthew Jackson scored on an run-scoring double by Chanz Doughty. Mason Christopher then came out of the bullpen and retired the rest of the side to end the inning.
Christopher tossed a scoreless fifth, allowing just one hit. The Seawolves took the lead in the sixth and extended it with a four runs in the seventh, capitalizing on wild pitches and defensive miscues by the Pirates.
Christopher finished with 2.2 innings pitched, allowing two hits, two runs and recording two strikeouts. Seton Hall ultimately dropped the opener, 7-3, despite two runs in the ninth.
Cole Hansen started for the Pirates on Saturday. Stony Brook struck first with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, but Seton Hall quickly responded.
In the second, catcher Kevin Milewski scored on a single by Nick Ferri. The Seawolves regained the lead briefly by scoring on a balk later in the inning.
The Pirates gained momentum in the third. Aiden Robbins launched a home run to tie the game at 2-2, followed by a two-run shot from Milewski after a single by Brennan, giving Seton Hall a 4-2 lead.
In the eighth, freshman Magnus Krieger brought in a run with single, and Milewski came around to score his third run of the game on an error. The Pirates held on for an 8-6 win.
Right-hander Steven Svenson started for the Pirates on Sunday, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out two across three innings. It was a high-scoring affair, with Stony Brook leading 5-2 after three innings.
The fourth inning proved pivotal for both teams. Seton Hall’s offense erupted for five runs behind a series of base hits, a bunt single and a sacrifice fly, taking a 7-5 lead.
The Seawolves quickly responded with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain the advantage.
In the eighth, the Pirates pulled away. Two runs scored on an error before Milewski crushed a three-run homer to left, giving Seton Hall a 13-9 lead.
Right-hander Daniel Frontera earned the win, tossing four innings and allowing one run on five hits with three strikeouts. The Pirates took the game 13-10 and clinched the series, two games to one.
Seton Hall will remain on the road for a Tuesday afternoon matchup at Wagner, before returning home Wednesday to face Dartmouth. The Pirates will look to build on their two-game winning streak.
