HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Seton Hall baseball team (9-15) fell short against Hofstra (10-14), losing 13-12 in a high-scoring battle. The Pirates’ struggles continue as they near conference play.

Momentum defined this matchup, with multiple lead changes throughout the game. Hofstra started strong in the early innings, but the Pirates rallied back. However, Hofstra mounted a late comeback to secure the victory.

Anthony Ehly took the loss for the Pirates, dropping his record to 0-2. It was a rough outing for Ehly, who barely made it past the first inning in a game that was anything but pitcher-friendly. Hofstra came out swinging, collecting 17 hits.

The Pirates went to the bullpen three more times, but the scoring couldn't be stopped. Tanner Sanderoff earned the win for the Pride with a brief two-inning performance. It was more of a bullpen game for Hofstra, which proved effective in the final stages.

On the hitting side for the Pirates, AJ Soldra led the way, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. The sophomore had a solid day and will be a player to watch as Seton Hall moves into conference play. Aiden Robbins also made an impact, driving in two runs with his lone hit.

In a game with few positives in a tough loss, the duo of Soldra and Robbins will need to continue their production at the plate for the Pirates to find success in conference play.

However, in this game, Hofstra dominated Seton Hall in hitting. The Pride recorded 17 hits to the Pirates’ eight. While the saying “defense wins championships” sometimes applies to baseball, it was certainly not the case here.

With the season off to a rough start, conference play becomes crucial in salvaging Seton Hall’s year. The Pirates still have a few nonconference opponents ahead, including St. Peter’s, Marist, and Princeton, in the coming weeks.

Seton Hall looks to return to the win column in a matchup with St. Peter’s tomorrow at 4 p.m. Catch all the action on WSOU.net, with CJ Weipz and Sean Casey on the call.
