The unranked Seton Hall Pirates (12-7, 3-6 conference) will be traveling to Washington D.C. this Tuesday, Feb. 1, as they look to take down Georgetown (6-12, 0-7 conference) at the Capital One Arena.

The Pirates are coming off of two tough losses in this pass week as they fell to St. John’s, 84-63, on Monday, Jan. 24 and again to Marquette, 73-63, two days later on Jan. 26.

The game against St. John’s was a special, but sad occasion, as it was a students-only game in the historic Walsh Gymnasium, the first time a Big East contest was played on the campus in over 30 years.

Regrettably, there was little for Pirate fans to celebrate as the team performed poorly shooting a combined 30% from the field. They also had 20 turnovers which the Red Storm had no issue taking advantage of.

In their return to the Prudential Center, the Pirates were once again out played by Marquette, as they failed to hit their shots. They shot a combined 34% from the field, going 7/20 from outside the arc.

The team was lead on the stat sheet by graduate student, Jamir Harris, who had 16 points. Senior Jared Rhoden, also stood out on the box score tallying 14 points and nine rebounds. Ultimately, they failed to stop the Golden Eagles star Justin Lewis who had 33 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and three steals.

The Hoyas, on the other hand, are on an eight-game skid, having not won a game since Dec. 15 when they beat Howard University. In their most recent game, they lost at Butler by a score of 56-53. Having failed to beat any of their conference opponents this year, head coach Patrick Ewing will be looking to turn his team around with just over a month remaining in the regular season.

This will be the first regular season matchup between the two teams this year after not having seen each other since last year’s Big East Tournament. That matchup at Madison Square Garden, saw the No. 8 seeded Hoyas take down the No. 5 seeded Pirates, 66-58.

While important pieces like Sandro Mamukelashvili and Shavar Reynolds are no longer with the team, Rhoden who was the game’s leading scorer, is still an important piece of the team this year.

This game will be broadcasted live on 89.5 FM WSOU with coverage starting at 8 p.m. Jonathan Heite and Christian Gardner will be on the call in Washington D.C., while Rony Jerez and Liam Plate keep you updated from our South Orange, N.J. studios. Make sure to tune into WSOU from your car, or on iHeartRadio to catch all the action.
